Sweetie little extras

Found these darlings years ago at the thrifts. Held on to them for the right little girl and the right occasion. Ruby must have been born by then, but she would have been super teeny.

My girlfriend is teeny no more. And so a little lady with a swishy taffeta dress needs a pair of gloves to go with.

Fancy gloves, no less.

Little girl Christmas dress: the purple version

I give my niece a handmade Christmas dress every year.

She was about to turn 6. She might be done, next year, with giant spinning dresses. Her mother and I seized the moment, picked a giant spinning pattern.

This year, after Christmas when I landed, the sweetness went to her room to put the thing on so I could see it. Added the little embroidered gloves I sent and a silver shrug too.

It was a long time coming together. My mother helped me pick the fabric during a fall visit here.

Underlined the taffeta from the stash.

Added the back zipper I swear matched up originally.

christmas bodice back

Handstitched the lining into the bodice so the stitches wouldn’t show.

Added little tulle flowers made from the silver underskirt on pins so she could move them around.

christmas dress finished

Packed the whole thing with a little sweater and gloves, each marked 1-2-3.

I should just give up already

So cute, right? Practice skirts to get back into “real” pattern sewing for my niece. I thought the waist seemed huge for an almost 6-yo, but what did I know? Followed the measurements as supplied to me.

Did a full lining, sewing it in under the waistband and under the hem so no ugly edges showed. Loved this pattern because there was no hem to do. Just a fold over and sew. I *really* hate hemming.

The pink’s from her corduroy Christmas dress last year, the one tragically et up in a house fire. The zebra’s her favorite print.

Yeah. It didn’t fit. Way too big.

Sigh.

Peter, this had your name on it

I hope it fits you.

M 4503 hair

I was so excited to find it I couldn’t wait to go home to take a proper photo. Ripped the sucker out of the Unique Thrift Store bag and slapped it on the car seat next to me.

The pockets and topstitching and back vent needed to be loved by someone like you. Or actually you.

The pants (or shorts) are slim, but not too slim.

It’s in the mail to you.

There was a present for me, too.
