How to.. recycle coupons

I love coupons. I love playing the coupon game, shuffling around the little buggers around until the toothpaste we need at home ends up costing pennies. Really I love the idea that I’ve somehow outsmarted The Man, because I beelined past all the impulse items to buy just those two boxes of tampons that will be free after rebate, and yes, the coupon I hold, will pay for the rebate stamp. Score!

So when I read a blurb about old ladies cutting coupons for military families overseas, I read more. And I learned from the peeps at the Overseas Coupon Project that stores on military bases accept coupons up to 6 months past their printed expiration date. And since I spend a chunk of Sunday morning in front of the talk shows cutting out coupons anyway, I might as well sit until the credits cutting out the rest of them instead of giving them the toss.

I’ll try not to think about promoting consumerism and absurd household products (will continue to throw out anything with Glade) and instead will remember what it was like living overseas to find a taste of home, even if that taste was something disgusting called Kraft Macaroni and Cheese or Tang.

Will find a widget to track my progress. First mailing = $200.36 in printed savings.

Aunt & uncle returned from a month in India. Love that they held my Christmas box until their travels. Returned with these mirrored colored bangles and so much more booty in tow. I love that they love my love of giant jewelry. Aunt said she enjoyed the hunt for so much fun. What a doll.

Think I’ll take the glass bead necklace and restring it to remove the little gold spacer beads that feel like plastic.

Jackpot!

The pink wool Jantzen halter suit

I hate Chicago’s western suburbs. Sadly, this is where I work several days a week. Can’t walk anywhere, and many of the people there think they’re pretty darned entitled. I say “darned” because I’ve just given up profanity for Lent. Monday was a terrible day for many reasons, among which I couldn’t walk to the strip mall next to my office building because there are zero sidewalks. Had to drive the .12 miles to Trader Joe’s for a few bottles of wine.

All that aside, I took myself to the only Salvation Army I know out there in the DuPa, which is somewhere along Roosevelt Road. Struck gold there. White roller skates. Various cashmere sweaters. Jumpsuits. A vintage pink Jantzen wool bathing suit with a halter top. A red angora hat with a button on the top. A black velvet vintage hat w feather.

Some of this is going straight into my wardrobe. Some will have work done before becoming part of the daily repertoire- the light green sweater dress will have to be darkened, beaded purple cashmere sweater taken in a bit. The rest is destined for fitzfab @ eBay as soon as I pull my act together to post it all.
